One Week Away

Everyone is finishing final exams and busy packing for our departure to Uganda in one week.  The professors are looking forward to seeing all of our friends at MUBS and in Uganda.  It very much feels like a home away from homeand we are excited to catch up with everyone.  Students -- What are you most looking forward to?  What concerns (if any) do you have?

  1. I am most looking forward to the safari trip. My main concerns are adjusting to the time change, remembering not to drink water from the tap, getting bitten by a ton of mosquitos, and getting attacked by a hippo on the way to the bathroom.

  2. I can't wait to go to the equator line and go to the markets in the city. I am most concerned about spiders crawling on me when I'm sleeping. I'm not sure if there are lots of spiders in Uganda but my roommate told me that today so I'm hoping that she is wrong.

  3. I am most looking forward to the safari trip, as well as getting to teach at Sure Prospects! I am most concerned about trying the different kinds of food, staying healthy, and being able to sleep on the long flight!

  7. Just as other people said I am most looking forward to the safari. I am also looking forward to seeing the differences in their healthcare and culture. It is different to imagine what it will be like, then to actually experience it. I am most concerned about the mosquitos.

  8. I am so incredibly excited for this entire trip. But I am most excited to meet new people and experience a whole new culture. There is so much to look forward to that it is hard to say on one thing. Just as others have said, I am also excited to try new food, go to the market, and so much more. The only thing I am a little concerned about would be the mosquitos. My bites turn into the size of golf balls!

  9. As most of the students have said, I am most looking forward to the Safari trip. I am also looking forward to trying all the new and different foods and all the new people we will get the chance to meet. I am concerned about forgetting to not drink the water, or getting really sick from the different food.

  10. I'm looking forward to going to meet all of the students at the Shure Prospects Institute, trying the new food, experiencing a new culture, meeting new people, and just being a tourist (the kind that is always taking pictures of everything and one that excited to go anywhere and everywhere).

  11. I am generally looking forward to experiencing a completely different culture! It is hard to say just one specific thing, but I am also excited for the Safari trip! The thing I am most worried about is getting sick (and the bugs)!

  12. I am really looking forward to meeting new people with different cultural backgrounds, trying the food, and going to the equator. I am not looking forward to the bugs and the fact that the water might make us sick.

  13. I am super excited for this trip!I have been waiting for this trip even before i came to drake! I'm excited to meet new people and experience another type of culture and life style! I can't wait to teach at sure prospects. I cant wait to talk one on one with the Ugandan students. I think i'm most worried about loosing my luggage or getting sick or not wanting to leave Uganda and come back to the states. This is a dream come true =)

  14. I am most looking forward to playing with the children of Uganda. I thoroughly enjoy kids and I am excited to get to understand how the kids live their everyday life. Being indulged into a new culture will also be extremely exciting. The only thing that I might say that I am not looking forward to is the plane trips there and back. I mean, 25 hours in a sitting position is not my idea of fun! But other than that I am super excited to just get there already! We leave so soon!

  15. I am most looking forward to the rural visit. I've grown up on a farm my whole life where we deal a lot with crops. So I am very interested to see the difference in how farming is done. I think I am the most worried about seeing a bunch of frogs, because I have a huge fear of frogs. Basically ignore me when I run away if we see one. Overall I am incredibly excited and really need to start packing!

  16. I am most excited about the prospect of seeing the stars from a place with so little light pollution. I really love stars. Don't mind me if I just randomly stop at night to stare at the sky. I am also really eager to experience a different culture. I have never been outside the country before, and I've certainly never been to somewhere so different, so I am really excited to get that new and different experience. The things I am most concerned about are being eaten alive by mosquitoes and adjusting to changes in my normal routine, like not drinking tap water and having to remember to keep on bug spray all the time.

  17. I am most excited to see the schools and the similarities and differences between Ugandan school and American schools. I am most concerned about seeing a hippo. That will be extremely frightening!

  18. As many have said too, I am very excited about the safari. But I also agree with Sarah and can't wait to see the same stars but in a completely different place. I am excited to see the whole beautiful country and people. This will be an experience for us like no other and I cannot wait to get there. I am a little worried I might become really close with the president and never be allowed to leave Uganda...just kidding! I am a little concerned about eating or drinking the wrong thing and getting sick.

  19. This is very last minute of me... But I am so excited! There isn't much that I am worried for anymore.. I spent a good few hours speaking with my doctor to determine the safe and unsafe. It will be an eye-opening experience and I can't wait to embark on this journey today! See you all in a few hours!
